Debut Album - "Paper Cuts" - Set to Release on November 15th, 2019

Hello all. We’re excited to announce that we will be releasing our debut album “Paper Cuts” on November 15th. It’s been a labor of love getting everything together and we couldn’t be happier to be at the point where we get to release the album out into the wild and see where it goes.

“Paper Cuts” is a nine track album. All of which are original songs of ours.

All of them were recorded with Taylor Campbell at The Prayer Arena over three separate sessions. The recording process was new to us and extremely liberating. We all set up together in one room. Mic’d everything up and what not. Then played the songs (sans vocals). We took special care and attention to the quality of the takes we chose. “Rattlesnake” for example, was originally done in our first session, but we felt it wasn’t coming out properly and ended up moving on to a different song instead. We would eventually try again on the third and final session. We ended up with the final version and couldn’t be happier with ourselves for not accepting the first takes and making the decision to let time do it’s magic and help it grow.

Taylor would send us home with the stems of our sessions and I would then go ahead and start mixing them. Mixing is a very creative part of the process for me, so I like to be able to work on that in my own studio. I would also do all the overdubs (guitar layers, some vocal parts, sampling, and auxiliary percussion..) at this point. Once the overdubs and mixing were completed I would begin Mastering. Mastering is a term I use loosely. I’m not trained in any of this professionally. I don’t have a professional space. I listen to a lot of records, I write a lot of songs. I know what I want them to sound like, and I do my best to get them there. For this record I did something new at this stage and bounced all of the mastered mixes to analog tape and then back to digital. I experimented a lot with different things during this process to get the sound we got. I loved this for several reasons - mainly the physical aspect of it. Putting the record to physical tape made it feel more real and permanent to me. It also put a “filter” over the songs that caters to the style of our music. I sincerely hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

We care very deeply about this record and are proud to be able to share it with you all. We will have it available on all digital platforms as well as physical CDs with 4 panel packaging.

As always, we will be booking shows the best we can in order to share “Paper Cuts” with you, as well as all of the new material we’ve been writing.

We’re extremely grateful to everyone who’s supported Sun Silo and made it possible for us to make this record the way we did.

We’re looking forward to hearing what you think.
