This Is Sun Silo

“We started working out all of these songs sometime this past March. At first it was just Max and I. We were taking parts that I had, and placing them in forms and grooves that felt good to play and to hear. It was exciting to watch because they really started to inspire us to do different things that I think we’ve always wanted to do but never had the opportunity to do until now. The gear started growing and everything was beginning to feel better and better. We always wanted Kim to join us. We knew once she was able to jump in that she’d give the songs a whole other texture and dimension. We were right and it was really thrilling to watch her take off with the ideas.

Around that time I think the ambition became to have a perform-able lineup, so we started thinking about bass players. It was tricky because the only time we could meet to work on this music was at about 8 am, twice a week. Its an odd time to ask someone to come jam. The only person we felt we could ask was Alyssia. She’s a long time friend of Kim’s and they grew up discovering music together much in the same way Max and I did. She had even recently mentioned a desire in doing something musical these days AND her schedule lined up with ours so it was basically a match made in heaven. She started joining us in the mornings and it’s been going like that ever since. The way she communicates with the group and encourages ideas is really special and has made the music evolve so quickly and in ways that couldn’t have happened without her.

Now that the lineup is set we’ve been meeting twice a week in the morning, drinking our coffee (and our tea), and whittling away at our songs. ” - Andy Warren Jepson
